Ephestia (=Anagasta) kuehniella, early model of developmental genetics, has become a model for Lepidoptera cytogenetics and sex chromosome research. A stock center with 28 strains including various eye-color and wing-pattern mutations, mostly highly inbred, is available at Institute of Entomology BC ASCR, Ceske Budejovice, Czech Rep. Stored product pest, often used as a model for testing biopesticides and pheromone monitoring; eggs used for mass rearing of parazitods to be used in biological control programs.
