This is a Brine shrimp found in most of the Americas. It has been widely used in the aquaculture industry and aquarium trade as fish food for over 50 years and in the last decades it has established itself due to accidental escapes and intentional introductions in many areas of the world, where it displaces the native brime shrimp species. It increases its range further through passive dispersal via its cysts, which birds transport between waterbodies.
