This species is a pest of stored cereals and has the highest reported resistance to phosphine fumigant of all the insect species so far. It is also a part of a cryptic species complex which comprises several Cryptolestes spp. that require expert taxonomic knowledge to identify.Sequencing this species would greatly accelerate population ecology studies as well as resistance studies.
