  • I am broadly interested in the developmental and molecular genetic aspects of morphological evolution. While much of my work focuses on larger phylogenetic comparisons (ordinal level), I am interested in smaller (e.g. population) level comparisons as well. Using developmental genetics, molecular biology and phylogenetic methods, my lab is examining the interactions and functions of genes and their networks in the evolutionary histories that have led to morphological disparity. Insects and other arthropods have been our study organisms and we have focused on appendage development and allometry, the issue of serial homology and bodyplan evolution, as well as sexual dimorphisms and developmental trade-offs.
