Who are we
The Funding and Resources i5K working group is focused on identifying conventional and unconventional sources of funding for sequencing and informatics activities within i5K.
How we work
To be successful, this working group must have representation from or relationships established in all regions of the world, and across as many discipline areas as possible. This is essential for us to identify and target all potential sources of funding, and to develop both conventional and unconventional strategies to obtain i5K funding.
Join
This working group first met at the 5th Annual Arthropod Genomics Symposium, where some ideas were first suggested and discussed. We welcome new members who would like to assist us in obtaining funding from the sources we have already identified, or would like to suggest and help pursue alternative strategies to help fund this exciting initiative. If your regions is not represented by the existing membership, please join up. Anyone can join by ticking the Funding and resources box in their User page (if using the edit with form option) or by adding the following in their User page if directly editing the page:

Ideas from our first meeting
NSF: Infrastructure grants, outreach grants for training, and the BREAD program
Commodity Groups: Co-ordination of commodity groups from different countries (USA, Australia, others?).
Aid Funding: Targeting pests of developing countries? (USAID, AUSAID, etc.)
Industry: Oil/Gas/Mining for environmental impact assessments
NGOs: Conservation groups, etc.
Benefactors: Philanthropists interested in the environment?
