Help:Making a new species page

From ArthropodBase wiki
Jump to: navigation, search

This is a quick guide to how to make a new species page on the ArthropodBase wiki. It's a 2 step process:

 • Adding data to the Infobox
 • Configuring the taxonomy.

These can all be done using the Species form. If you are having difficulties then please contact bugadmin (you can leave a message in my User page or use the Village pump). I can deal with remaining issues and tidying up the page.

 • Use the Species form page to input general information about the species. Don't worry if you do not know or the data does not exist. We can address those issues at a later date.
 • The full phylogenetic tree requires that each level has a page. These are defined by the Taxonomy template and data can be integrated using the Taxonomy form. Basically, this requires three data items: the name of the taxonomic level, the level (e.g. Order, Family) and the immediate parent to this level (e.g. Family for a Genus entry etc). Contact bugadmin if you are unsure about this as I can help (see the Taxonomy classification tab).

Data templates are added automatically by the template description. For reference, the following is added to the page:

<br><br><br>
<br clear=all/>Phylotree

NOTE: You will need to include the names of all taxonomic levels here. I have used the Integrated Taxonomic Information System (ITIS) as a basis, with some input from the NCBI taxonomy system as well. As before if you are concerned about this or it doesn't work out the way you expected then please contact bugadmin. I would rather have lots of requests for help with this than have to rectify problems that may arise - so If in doubt, ask first..
