i5K Comments for Hypothenemus hampei
The coffee berry borer is the most devastating pest of coffee throughout the world, causing more than $500 million in losses yearly. It occurs in ALL coffee producing countries throughout the world, severely reducing yields and negatively affecting the economies of coffee growers and coffee-producing nations. Sequencing the genome of the coffee berry borer would allow to better understand its biology and might open novel mechanisms to manage the insect. I have been conducting coffee berry borer research since 1996 and can provide specimens as needed from various countries or from my laboratory colony. Fernando E. Vega
