i5K Comments for Leptothorax acervorum
L.acervorum shows variation in a fundamental aspect of social organisation1. This is an excellent sytem to investigate the genetic underpinning of reproductive skew (reproductive sharing). It is also an important contrast to the polymorphic social organisation marked by gp-9 in the ant Solenopsis invicta.

L. acervorum is a widespread ant found in the northern hemisphere. Colonies are easy to collect and keep in the lab in large numbers (100s) so genetic material is readily available.
