Species:
  • Bombyx mori,
  • Heliothis virescens,
  • Heliothis subflexa
  • My research interests include classical gene mapping, synteny, cytogenetics, Bt resistance, QTL analysis (practical breeding and other traits), and comparative genomics, mainly among Lepidoptera using the silkworm as a reference. I am especially interested in identifying species for which the silkworm genome can provide a guide for addressing key scientific questions. Heliothis virescens and H. subflexa, which can form fertile hybrids, are an especially good species pair for investigating the evolution and genetic basis of behaviors like feeding (wide vs. narrow host range), mating (different female pheromone blends and male mating response to them), and egglaying (on different host plants), as well as baculovirus and insecticide resistance.
