The livelihood of at least one-tenth of the world’s human population can be affected by this voracious insect. While it is still the most dangerous of all known pests, the Desert locust is a difficult pest to control. Modern days control measures are further compounded by the lack of genetic and molecular knowledge. Furthermore for almost a century, S. gregaria is a leading model animal in endocrinology, physiology, neurobiology and behavior research.
