Dr. Aaron T. Dossey: This and other flesh flies are also known to produce antimicrobial substances, presumably to ward off infection and control the microflora present on their flesh-meal as larvae (maybe to prevent it from rotting too fast or the wrong way?). The sequence of the genome of this and other flesh flies would certainly provide very valuable information on the anti-microbial peptides and biosynthetic mechanisms of those and anti-microbial small-molecule secondary metabolites.
